About AKC Marketplace
AKC Marketplace is the only site to exclusively list 100% AKC puppies from AKC-Registered litters and the breeders who have cared for and raised these puppies are required to follow rules and regulations established by the AKC. Through DNA and health testing, kennel inspections, education, and a dedicated staff, we make sure our breeders have the resources they need to be successful.
Why Choose AKC Marketplace?
All dogs are special, whether they’re a mixed breed or purebred. However, when you get a purebred puppy from an AKC Marketplace breeder, you have greater certainty of what to expect once you bring them home, based on their unique breed characteristics. Additionally your puppy will have received top-notch care starting day one from our thoughtful breeders. Good nutrition, appropriate medical attention, and ample socialization—all the ingredients for a happy, healthy dog.
The American Kennel Club conducts thousands of inspections each year.
We are the only purebred dog registry in the United States that maintains a systematic and sustained investigation and inspection effort. The care and conditions of the dog and kennel are of the utmost importance to the AKC and our inspectors ensure that our breeders comply with these standards. If you would like to verify that the breeder you are dealing with is in good standing with the AKC, contact AKC Customer Service at 919-233-9767 or email@example.com.
Where you go to get your dog is just as important as what kind of dog you get.
The American Kennel Club believes that breeding should be undertaken responsibly for the purpose of preserving breed characteristics and producing healthy, well-socialized puppies. Responsible breeders are expected to give careful consideration to health issues, temperament, and genetic screening, as well as to the individual care and placement of puppies in responsible homes.
The American Kennel Club has built the world’s largest database of canine DNA profiles for the purposes of parentage verification and genetic identity. The AKC uses DNA certification to ensure reliable registration records and the integrity of its registry.
The AKC has established a breeder education program through its Canine College to provide continual learning opportunities for our breeders so they can stay up-to-date on the best breeding practices and advances in canine health. All course are offered free-of-charge to AKC Breeders.
Breeders of Distinction
The American Kennel Club has established breeder programs that enable us to recognize our breeders’ dedication to promoting the health and welfare of dogs.
AKC Breeder of Merit
AKC Breeders of Merit (BOM) have demonstrated a significant commitment to the AKC community and their breed(s) and are active participants in canine sports (e.g. Conformation, Agility, Obedience). To be eligible for the BOM program, a breeder must be a member of an AKC club; been involved in canine sports for a minimum of 5 years, for which at least 4 dogs they’ve bred have earned titles; and certify that they perform the health screens recommended by their breed’s Parent Club.
AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T.
An AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Accountability, Responsibility, Tradition) breeder is committed to meeting specific health testing standards and participating in continuing education. A breeder certifies that they conduct the Health Test Requirements recommended by their breed’s Parent Club and must complete AKC-approved or AKC-provided on-line or in-person educational courses, seminars or conferences each year.
AKC Club Member
For more than 133 years, the American Kennel Club has been a “club of clubs,” comprised of over 500 AKC Member Clubs and almost 5,000 AKC-Affiliated clubs. An AKC Club Member breeder upholds that tradition by being an active contributor to success of their club.
